Fiction / THREE HOURSTHREE HOURS
THREE HOURS is not only a testament to the comedic strength of young German-language cinema, but also a fantastic statement - build castles in the air, laugh, cry, and marvel at them! Only then does the seriousness of life seem worth living.FAZ
SYNOPSIS
Martin is a poet, a quiet but persistent dreamer who has been working for years on his grand play about castles in the air, flying pirates, and a feisty princess.

The secret inspiration for his main character is his best friend Isabel, a young woman with a sharp tongue who is waging a global campaign against genetically modified seeds. And tomorrow she’ll be setting off again—for three years in drought-stricken Mali, in the heart of Africa. Of all places, it’s at the check-in counter that Martin confesses his love to her.

A confession that, not long ago, would have meant the world to Isabel, but that now actually comes too late...
When Isabel’s flight is delayed by several hours, she heads into town to talk to Martin, but he’s nowhere to be found. It isn’t until the middle of the night that the two meet outside Martin’s apartment door, and they have three hours left to make up their minds.

Writer and director Kunz follows in the footsteps of his character Martin and stages a fairy tale. Because his imagery makes this clear - a delightful reframing of the story that recurs time and again in the theatrical scenes - the sense of well-being is far from sentimental kitsch. The carefully drawn characters and their precise dialogue are entirely believable. They can - and must - be taken seriously, even though there’s plenty to laugh about.Frankenpost
