Fiction / THE PROCEDURETHE PROCEDURE
It tells the story of a man who has gone off the rails and is trying to return to normal life, but only on the condition of a massive breach of trust - and the film handles this so skilfully that you don’t know until the very end which side of the scales will tip. Like in a puzzle, guilt and dignity are never clearly defined. To top it all off, the acting is outstanding - a first-rate poker duel of facial expressions. What ARD is airing here around midnight is better than a great deal of what’s on during primetime.FAZ
SYNOPSIS
Police officer Roland Prengler is sent to the small town of Ahndorf as an undercover investigator to solve a murder case that has stumped his local colleagues.

Three years ago, 17-year-old Lucy Dirnhost disappeared here. The police have good reason to believe she was murdered, and they have exactly one suspect: the outsider Werner Seiler - a dishevelled drunk who lives on a former farm on the outskirts of town and is shunned by everyone around him as much as possible.

Roland is supposed to befriend this eccentric loner, gain his trust, and ultimately coax a confession out of him - a simple police tactic. But it soon becomes clear that this feigned friendship puts the humanity of the otherwise so confident police officer to the test.
THE PROCEDURE - an unconventional crime drama inspired by a true story.
