We're cutting in half the population or the living standards. Good luck persuading people in modern civilized places to part with any of their living standard.Chris Korda

SYNOPSIS

COME ON, LET’S GO EXTINCT! is a documentary series about what may be the last major milestone in human history. After 70,000 years, we have not only managed to dominate nature, but also - in a very short space of time - to turn the planet upside down and grow to such an extent that the diversity of life and thus the basis of our own existence are under threat. Are we failing because of our own success?

COME ON, LET’S GO EXTINCT! – Film still 1

In the face of unchecked economic growth, excessive environmental pollution and an exploding population, we confront the uncomfortable question of how we can save our civilisation from collapse. Is a drastic reduction in the human population the only solution?

COME ON, LET’S GO EXTINCT! – Film still 2

Our journey takes us to population scientists who calculate exactly how many of us the earth can support; radical antinatalists who advocate the extinction of humanity; family planning organisations that campaign for access to contraception; activists who try to convince politicians to take the necessary measures and UFO researchers who - much to the series’ advantage - know the exact number of the Earth’s optimal population, as communicated by extraterrestrials.

COME ON, LET’S GO EXTINCT! – Film still 3

Provocative, humorous and full of hard facts, we will make anything but a deadly serious series - especially because it is about the survival of mankind.

It’s not just about saying ‘let’s have fewer children.’ I think we also need to do this from a social developmental perspective where we also look at ways in which we can improve the quality of the population, empower women, invest in education, and so on.Eliya Zulu
